MP3 OF THE DAY: Moon Hooch – Contra

Thanks to a faithful listener tip (EROB in Wisconsin), EB was turned on recently to a Brooklyn trio who is bringing a new musical creation to the scene. called Moon Hooch. Members Wenzl McGowen (Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Contrabass Clarinet, Tubes, EWI), Mike Wilbur (Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone), and James Muschler (Drums) met and graduated from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in Manhattan in 2010.

Since solidifying as a band, Moon Hooch has quickly gained a reputation for inciting “subway raves” (they were banned from performing at the Bedford Ave stop off the L line in Brooklyn for “starting too many dance parties”), their strange instrumentation and explosive live show. These guys definitely know how to have a great time while delivering a very interesting musical dynamic. Check out their viral “Moon Hooch Alarm Clock” video as evidence.

This video lead to their debut on Endless Boundaries ep. 711 this past Saturday night and the response has been filled with excitement and curiosity. Now it’s your turn to discover and share something new with your passionate live music friends by enjoying a free download from Moon Hooch called “Contra”. The track was was recorded with live instrumentation and no use of synths. Plus the first time they recorded with a vocalist (Alena Spanger).
