MP3 OF THE DAY: Remembering 9/11 With Yonder Mountain String Band

It’s amazing to realize it’s been eleven years since our lives experienced what we did on 9/11/01. We could go into deep detail on what we were doing during those exact moments where life can deliver absolute chaos, but what we really should do is reflect on the strength of this nation and continue to remember those lost and those who continue to fight for our cause. To the armed forces, emergency personell, and everyone who serves our country to protect our freedom, THANK YOU.

With many shows and sporting events canceling on 9/11, one show still surfaced. One where people could go out and rally, listen to live music in the spirit of healing, or just joining together because they weren’t sure what else to do. Yonder Mountain String Band thought about canceling their show at the Cat in the Cream Coffeehouse in Oberlin, OH, but they decided to move forth.

As you listen to these recordings, you’ll hear the emotional presence different from other Yonder Mountain shows. Before the band takes the stage, there’s a two minute announcement about candlelight ceremonies, blood mobile donation info, and a message of peace and music. During the set, normal comical Yonder banter was filled with the band taking requests and just putting music out there for people who needed it.

One of the reviews from the show states:
“Only true professionals could gather the strength to play on one of the worst days in US history”. Way to go Yonder!”

So today as you reflect, download this free soundboard show from Yonder Mountain String Band and carry the American spirit with you on today’s travels. Please feel free to share this post with others who would appreciate a particular moment in Yonder Mountain history where the band pulled it together for the sake of the people and the country.
